A Brief History Of African Instruments

The Legend of African Instruments


Typically made of hide, metal and wood, harps were played for entertainment and to liven up group gatherings.



Drums were unreal primarily elsewhere of wood, with the covering constructed of animal blot out and plant fibre; these instruments were used for celebrating weddings, funerals and other especial occasions.


Gong and Gong Beaters


Wood gong beaters and iron gongs were originally used by predominately virile members to facilitate organizational meetings.


Sistrum or Wood Gourd


The sistrum was played in ceremonies welcoming youth into associations that fostered learning.


Wood Trumpet


Used in professional associations, trumpets were sounded to celebrate promotions or status advancements within that organization.


Bells


Made of iron, copper and other metal alloys, bells were often worn in battle for protection and to create fear in the enemy.


Harps


The novel of African mellifluous instruments is as in clover and mixed as the citizens that populate the African continent. Artistic displays of colour and symbols were created to demonstrate the instrument's end and, regularly, the process on which it was played.
