At this intermediate level, art allows students the opportunity to memorize about themselves by expressing their thoughts and feelings through their creativity. They discover new ways to problem-solve and define a sense of place by directly participating in their history and culture. By working with others in pairs or groups, they begin developing a sense of community. Sixth grade art, designed to enhance and strengthen motor skills, also promotes new ways for students to perceive the world as they seek their own place within it.


By sixth grade, students are close with basic Craft conception. Through student/teacher discussions and respectful peer analysis, the teacher encourages students to develop those areas of artistic strength and directs them to explore new ways to improve areas of weakness.

Through the exploration of a variety of artistic forms, students incorporate the concepts of composition, perspective, emotion and mood into art pieces through the use of the seven elements of design. Understanding how each element works Towards the materials of the project enhances students' motivation, communication skills, self-awareness, confidence, self-discipline and problem-solving abilities. The use of line, shape, color, form, space, value and texture all further students' understanding of self and their place in the world.
