Instructions

The remaining cone that extends above the top of the circle will be the top of the witch's hat.3. Mix one part flour and two parts water in a bowl until smooth to create the paper mache paste.

2. Roll a section of newspaper into a cone shape and tape it together. Insert the cone into the circle of your cardboard "donut," leaving a couple inches below the base to flatten out and tape against the cardboard.1. Shorten a quota of cardboard into a large circle. Cut a small circle out of the center of the large circle; it should now look like a large cardboard donut. This will be the base of the hat.

Add about 3 tablespoons of salt to prevent the growth of mold in the paste. Tear newspaper strips about 1-by-6 inches long. Lay a drop cloth over the area on which you will work.

4. Wet the newspaper strips in the glue solution and place them on the base and sides of the witch hat. Repeat this process until the entire hat is covered in newspaper and paste. Let dry for 24 hours. Repeat the newspaper gluing process two more times allowing 24 hours between each process to dry.

5. Paint the witch's hat black after it has three coats of newspaper and it has thoroughly dried.
